I wasn’t aware of exactly what a debt management scheme was - and was fascinated!
What was even more interesting was the attitude amongst the staff - they spend all day on the phone, helping people who are in debt - yet they all insist “that it’s not your fault” - mostly people in debt believe that they’re to blame seemingly, but finance-inc.co.uk insist otherwise.
They made the point that nobody plans to get into debt, no-one plans to lose their job, have an accident, have a relationship break up, and so on.
It can happen to anyone - and it’s so much easier now, with mortgages so hard to obtain, job losses increasing, credit card companies robbing with their ridiculously high interest rates - which were 0% when you signed up!
So, what does a debt management scheme DO?
Well, you ring them and then send them all your credit card statements, hate mail from debt collectors and so on.
They then “take over” the problem for you.
Amazingly, they deal with the companies and debt collectors for you - any future letters you get, you just forward to the team - you don’t even need to open them!
Looking at some of the, frankly threatening, letters from what I’d assumed were “reputable” banks and companies which I saw in my visit to their offices today, I’d be scared to open one of these.
They deal direct with the banks etc and arrange for no more interest to be added to your account and also go through what you can really afford - and that’s what you pay from then on!
With permission, I listened in on one call - I promised anonymity for the caller, of course - we’ll call her Cathie - but she had got into debt and her partner didn’t know - this is a common occurence, apparently.
She was clearly very scared and upset to have got in to this position - but Sally, the advisor at www.finance-inc.co.uk assured that it wasn’t her fault (there’s that phrase again).
I then listened as Sally called her contact at (a well known) bank, a credit card company and a prominent debt collection agency - and got the wheels rolling.
Within a few hours, she had saved Cathie not only a huge amount (many hundreds), but frozen all the interest and reduced the payments to a level the caller could afford.
I wasn’t able to stay for the call when Sally told Cathie what she’d done - but I suspect she was pleased - and relieved…
It seems that if you’re in debt, there’s 2 lessons:
1: It’s not your fault, and,
2: Something can be done - easily and simply - saving you money in the process.
So, if you’re in debt, visit the website at DebtManagementSchemes.co.uk or call them on 0845 226 7153.
